CEO/PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT

Ethan Andersen, AIA

In 2010 Ethan began Drafting Cafe out of a desire to define a new type of architecture firm with more commitment to client service and transparency. A well-rounded designer with experience working on projects ranging from wineries and restaurants to single-family homes and remodels, Ethan grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and attended Philadelphia University where he received his Bachelor of Architecture degree. His collaborative approach and ability to transform ideas into beautiful spaces has earned him the opportunity to design for HGTV’s “Curb Appeal” alongside show host John Gidding. In 2018, Ethan launched Planchx.com, an online service that instantly provides building codes for residential building projects.
These days, he can be found working on anything from the fine details of a project to refining how Drafting Cafe’s process works in order to meet and exceed client expectations. He enjoys hiking with his family, mountain biking, and snow. He lives in Alameda with his wife Janel, children Margot and Cohen, and their dog, Tess.

Lindsey Hughes

Lindsey joined DCA in the fall of 2018 to kickstart new projects and field inquiries from eager and curious homeowners. Always embracing the challenge of demystifying the nebulous first steps of any building project, Lindsey comes armed with her friendly disposition and wicked sense of humor. She’s the welcoming committee, offering new clients a sure and steady hand as they jump into the DCA process.
A Bethel University B.A. Studio Art graduate, treehouse illustrator for ArtisTreeHomes, tree climber for Tree Monkey Project, vocalist & instrumentalist, and all-around free-spirit, Lindsey is a Minnesota-born multihyphenate with a diverse background in the arts, humanities, environmental exploration, and musical expression. PRODUCTION COORDINATOR

Norm de Veyra

Norm believes good design services should be accessible to everyone. At Drafting Caehe aims to explore further ways to integrate new tools and technology into the design process that allow for easier documentation, communication, and implementation.
With a BA Architecture from UC Berkeley, Norm has been documenting existing conditions asan As-Built Coordinator with Drafting Cafe since 2017. With a decade-plus experience in residential architecture, he’s familiar with the intricacies of the entire architectural process, but he finds the specialization that Drafting Cafe employs to be a wholly unique and refreshing approach to how an architecture firm can operate in the 21st century.
When he’s not playing with lasers and measuring a house you’ll most likely catch this Bay Area native at a concert snapping photos from the pit, as a music photographer, or bopping along in the crowd as a fan.

PROJECT MANAGER

Ryan Hughes

Ryan emerged from the wilderness and assumed a desk at Drafting Cafe in 2018. A graduate of Oklahoma State University, the Literature major spent substantial time exploring his many interests. Always one for extensive study and learning, Ryan hucked himself headfirst into many lines of work. During his 8 years of traveling around America’s wild places in Alaska, Washington, Wyoming, and more, Ryan developed a love of traditional skills, including woodworking. He followed this passion into making fine, handcrafted furniture in California’s wine country. It is this passion that brings him to Drafting Cafe Architects.
Ryan brings hands-on custom carpentry experience to Cafe Cabinets and is very eager to help you build the kitchen of your dreams. He loves the challenge to ‘make something work.’ You can find him bumbling around the cabinet shop laughing at his own jokes (somebody has to laugh), or running back and forth to the Building Department, and he’ll do everything he can to provide some logical lines of pursuit. A fervent examiner of how things get put together, Ryan is your ‘go-to’ contact for the nuts and bolts of your construction project. Whether it is a question regarding the intricacies of planning and building code, or what species of wood to use on your floors, Ryan is happy to help.
